The world-famous Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park lies 30 km west of USM and is home to the big five.
USM plays a significant role in the local community as it crushes sugarcane from approximately 60 commercial farmers and more than 1500 small-scale farmers and employs over 300 permanent staff.

The USM Powergen Department is offering an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced Senior Boiler Panel Operator. We are seeking a self-motivated, proactive, and energetic individual who demonstrates strong teamwork, takes pride in good housekeeping, and is committed to maintaining high safety standards. The successful candidate will ensure an adequate supply of good quality steam by assuming the effective and efficient operation of the boiler control room and the supervision of general Power Generation activities.
