Celebrating the success of 96% participation on courses in the month of October, the highest ever, USM Training Manager Johan Bester (who filled this position as an FTC and is handing over the baton in the coming months) said that it%u2019s been a rewarding and instrumental 18 months for employees%u2019 achievement and growth. Initiating Disciplinary Action and Chairing EnquiriesThis two-day interactive programme helps line managers manage discipline in the workplace effectively, ensure compliance with legislation and fairness, and enable continued working relationships. Through understanding their role and building skills to empower them to investigate, initiate and know how to adjudicate in a disciplinary enquiry, they will be equipped to support workplace relations. Training in this field is provided by National Global Solutions. It is ongoing and open to managers, HR practitioners and learners. FIRST AID TRAININGBy law 5% of the workforce on duty at any given time must be trained in First Aid and teams of at least 4 employees should practise working together and share responsibility. Well within the legal requirement, USM ensured 26 employees having previously completed level 1 in First Aid received training to update their knowledge and certificates. Fifteen of this group were then selected to complete Level 2 & level 3, significantly enhancing the capacity in the factory to respond to emergencies. The pictures demonstrate some of the many first aid techniques they learnt to support and stabilise patients until medical assistance is on-site.INCIDENT INVESTIGATIONThe purpose of this training is to equip employees to understand and adopt a detailed but simple approach to incident investigation, procedures and techniques. The course covered techniques for gathering complete, accurate and objective incident data, establishing root causes, reporting findings and determining corrective action. NOSA (National Occupational Safety) provided the training to USM factory departmental managers and supervisors.Celebrating the completion of Level 3 Incident Investigation is from left: Bradley Mbatha, Sandile Mbuyasi (hidden), Mqondisi Dladla, Sindiswa Ngcobo, Busisa Manqele (behind), Lourindi Conradie (NOSA Facilitator), Gugu Mhlongo, Mndeni Mabaso (behind) and Mbali Nhlenyama.Umbonowethu November 2024 5Sihle Silinda, Thobile Ntuli and Mduduzi Mazibuko completing the practical aspect of their training in level 3.
